Call for papers: Annual Conference of the Law Literature and Humanities – Australia

The Call for Papers for the Annual Conference of the Law Literature and Humanities of Association is now open. It is time to submit your abstracts before the closing date of May 31.

• To find out all about the conference go to: http://law.anu.edu.au/conferences/interpellations

The annual conference is one of the leading gatherings of scholars working at the crossroads of law, capsule justice, stuff and culture, whether based in legal theory or in disciplines such as literature, art, film, music, history, continental philosophy, anthropology, psychoanalysis, visual culture, or cultural studies. It draws leading figures, established scholars and emerging researchers from Australia and around the world.

This year for the first time the Conference will be held at ANU Canberra, Dec. 5–8 2013. We have assembled an exceptional group of keynote speakers including:
WJT Mitchell, one of the great figures of US cultural studies over the past 25 years and recently author of Cloning Terror: The War of Images, 9-11 to the Present (Chicago 2011), and Seeing Through Race (Harvard, 2012).
Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos, a leading scholar in fields of law and geography, the environment and the city, Director of the Westminster International Law & Theory Centre and recipient of the Oxford University Press National Law Teacher of the Year Award 2011.
• Honni van Rijswijk, a leading young Australian scholar on the intersection of feminism, literature, and social justice.

In addition we will be hosting  a day-long workshop for HDR students across the country. The event will feature seminars on research and method with our keynote speakers and a panel on strategy and tactics for completing Ph.D. students. This special event will be held the day before the main conference and will be open to all HDR students who are registered for the main conference.

We are also planning a number of other events including a reception, conference dinner, and a book launch with a surprise guest!

Who could say no? Who could resist the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, develop new networks and collaborative ventures, and present and learn from the most recent developments in research and scholarship in the field.

Academics, scholars, and HDR students are all invited to submit their abstracts now on themes consonant with the Call for Papers or of general interest to the Association. We particularly welcome proposals from groups for thematic panels.
